PRAYER GUIDE

Understanding prayer times

How daily prayer times are calculated, why apps sometimes differ, and what to verify while travelling.

The five daily prayers are connected to the sun's position, so their times change by date and location. A timetable for Hyderabad, Dubai or London should not be used for Makkah without adjusting to the local location.

Why two timetables may differ

Services can use different calculation conventions for dawn and night, different settings for the Asr prayer, or different rounding rules. Small differences do not necessarily mean that one service is malfunctioning.

Use local official guidance

The times displayed on MeccaLive24.com are provided for convenient general reference. When in Makkah or Madinah, follow the mosque's adhan and current local guidance. Travellers should also confirm congregation times locally because they are not the same thing as the beginning of each prayer window.

Time-zone awareness

Makkah uses Arabia Standard Time throughout the year. Viewers abroad should be careful not to confuse the displayed Makkah clock with their device's local time. A live broadcast may also contain a short transmission delay.

Practical checks

  • Confirm that the location is set correctly in any prayer-time app.
  • Review the calculation method and Asr setting.
  • Allow for differences when fasting, travelling or planning transport.
  • Seek qualified religious guidance for personal questions.
