Sa’i commemorates Hajar’s search for water and is performed between Safa and Marwah. It begins at Safa and ends at Marwah after seven passages.
Counting the passages
- Safa to Marwah is passage one.
- Marwah to Safa is passage two.
- Continue alternating until passage seven ends at Marwah.
During Sa’i
Walk at a manageable pace, remember Allah and make supplication. Men who are able may follow the established practice in the marked green-light area; those unable to do so should not strain themselves. Women continue at their normal pace.
Accessibility and safety
Use designated wheelchair and mobility routes where applicable. Stay hydrated, keep children and vulnerable companions close, and follow the directions of mosque staff.
After Sa’i
For Umrah, the rite is concluded with halq or taqsir according to the applicable guidance. Ask a qualified scholar if you are unsure about sequence, validity or special circumstances.
