Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr

Dhul Hijjah, Arafah and Eid al-Adha
The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah include the Hajj rites. The Day of Arafah is 9 Dhul Hijjah and Eid al-Adha begins on 10 Dhul Hijjah. See the Dhul Hijjah and Arafah guide.
Muharram and Ashura
Muharram begins the Hijri year and is one of the four sacred months. Ashura falls on 10 Muharram. See the Muharram and Ashura dates.
Other important months
- Rajab: one of the four sacred months.
- Sha’ban: the month immediately before Ramadan.
- Shawwal: begins with Eid al-Fitr and includes the recommended six fasts.
- Dhu al-Qi’dah: a sacred month before Dhul Hijjah.
