How the Islamic calendar works
The Hijri calendar is lunar and contains twelve months. A Hijri year is approximately 354 or 355 days, so Islamic dates move earlier through the Gregorian calendar each year.
Why dates can differ
Calculated dates are useful for planning, but the start of a month may differ by country because authorities follow their own moon-sighting decisions. Confirm Ramadan, Eid, Hajj and other religious dates with the recognised authority where you live.
