Umrah is not dependent on memorising a large booklet. Learn a small number of established remembrances, understand what they mean and make sincere personal dua. Avoid claiming that every Tawaf circuit has a compulsory separate formula when reliable evidence has not established one.
Talbiyah after entering Ihram
Arabic: لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ
Transliteration: Labbayka Allahumma labbayk. Labbayka la sharika laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni‘mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika lak.
Meaning: Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner; here I am. All praise, blessing and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.
At the Black Stone line
Follow the established remembrance when beginning a circuit, indicating from a safe position when the area is crowded. Do not push or interrupt the flow to complete a recommended act.
Between Rukn al-Yamani and the Black Stone
Arabic: رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Transliteration: Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina ‘adhaban-nar.
Meaning: Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
During the rest of Tawaf
You may praise Allah, make dhikr, recite Quran and ask for your needs in any language you understand. Prepare a short personal list—for forgiveness, guidance, family, lawful provision, health and the wider Ummah—without reading so continuously that you lose awareness of the crowd.
At Safa and Marwah
Recite the established Quranic words and remembrance taught for Safa and Marwah, face the Qibla where appropriate, praise Allah and make personal dua. Learn the full wording from a reliable scholar or authenticated collection before travel.
No special dua for first seeing the Kaaba
Pilgrims may make sincere dua when moved by the sight of the Kaaba, but should not present an unverified wording as a compulsory prophetic formula. This distinction protects worship from confident but unsupported claims.
Using a phone or booklet
- Save the text offline before entering the mosque.
- Use large type that can be read at a glance.
- Do not stop suddenly in a moving lane.
- Never let the screen distract you from people directly ahead.
- Prefer understood words over a long transliteration read without attention.
When wording differs
Transliteration systems and translations vary. Arabic pronunciation should be learned from a qualified teacher rather than reconstructed from English spelling alone. The meaning provided here is a concise orientation, not a substitute for study.
