Ihram is the sacred state in which a pilgrim begins Hajj or Umrah. The word is also commonly used for the two garments worn by men, but wearing them alone does not place a person in the sacred state. Intention at the applicable boundary, together with beginning the rite, is central.
What is a miqat?

The principal miqat routes
- Dhul Hulayfah: associated with travellers approaching from Madinah.
- Al-Juhfah area: associated with travellers approaching from the direction of the Levant and routes aligned with it.
- Qarn al-Manazil: associated with the Najd direction and routes aligned with it.
- Yalamlam: associated with travellers approaching from Yemen and southern routes.
- Dhat Irq: associated with the Iraq direction and routes aligned with it.

Preparation before intention

Men’s and women’s clothing

Travelling by air
Change and prepare well before the estimated boundary. Airline announcements are helpful but should not be the only plan. Intention and Talbiyah

Common restrictions after entering Ihram
